The Story: Grammy Nominated Basie Recording with Clint Holmes

So.  We go into the studio to record some tracks.  This one is a Grammy Nominated track for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals, Clint Holmes vocals featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater.  Arrangement by Gordon Goodwin.  I need to add some flavor to it, and we need to make it our own.  Playing lead alto, also means playing the saxophone well, because the Lead Alto chair is heard by everyone, it guides the band in many ways.  If you listen to the recordings or watch the videos, you always hear Marshal Royal's sound and slurpy sound over top of the band, that's why Lead Alto was Concert Master of the Big Band.  The best part of this session shows how the current version of the Basie Band upholds the tradition and history of the Orchestra.  It don't mean a thing if it ain't got the swing.   It was wonderful to work wtih Dee Dee Bridgewater again, she was also a guest with The Lionel Hampton Band, she is always bringing it!  Hope you enjoy.
